today i got an email send from my own email address that i didn’t send…. how does that happen? must be trickery ;p

Actually it’s trivial to write whatever you want in the To:, From: and other headers. You don’t need any special permission or authentication to send a message appearing to be from and/or to anyone.
Email is like a postcard: wide open and trivially forged. It goes with the territory.
