"The lesson here is simple. At a deep ideological level, Republicans
believe that federal bureaucracies are inherently inept, so when
Republicans occupy the White House they have no interest in making the
federal bureaucracy work. And it doesn't. Democrats, by contrast, take
government services seriously and appoint people whose job is to make
sure the federal bureaucracy does work. And it does."

NERT drill
Up early on a Saturday morning to walk over to the emergency services and neighborhood response teams' city-wide disaster drill. The rest of you, work on your kits. 67% chance of a 6.7 or greater quake in the SF Bay Area by 2032. Today is as likely as 20 years from now. If you can keep yourself from being a victim, our small number of emergency services workers can focus on those who really need help.
Here's me (standing to left of seated person in orange) working as Planning. That's Adam in the white vest doing a good job as our Neighborhood Team Leader. We were Team A, Hayes Valley, etc.
Another shot of me at the big spring drill.
What a bunch of NERTs!
NERT!
I just signed up to do Neighborhood Emergency Response Team training on the first 3 Saturdays in March in Noe Valley. Anyone want to join me?
I already have a hard hat – actually, I have two – from prior emergency training in other cities so I'm off to a good start.
Fireboat!
Fireboats are cool.
Yay! Fireboat!
